The city of Plantation's first annual BBQ was held in 1956, to raise money to buy Plantation's first piece fire fighting equipment, a 500 gallon pumper. You can often see this unit in Plantation's Holiday and 4th of July Parades. It almost seems so hard to believe that in the 1950s the population of city of Plantation, FL was roughly 500 people! Plantation has roughly 85,000 residents today.
The Plantation Volunteer Fire Association BBQ menu features ribs, chicken, beans, and cole slaw. There are a wide variety of beverages available for additional purchase and a special kid’s hot dog meal. Every year letters are mailed to every known resident in the city of Plantation offering advance purchase of tickets at $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children.
Tickets may also be purchased by calling Plantation Fire Administration at 954-797-2150, or on Sunday, at the gate $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for children. The barbecue is held every year, rain or shine. “Take-away” plates are also available.
The Plantation Volunteer Fire Association BBQ is a great family friendly event and has live music, kids’ games, bounce houses, raffle prizes, live demonstrations and much more.
